ANNUAL MEETING 2019
HELLENIC INSTITUTE OF MARINE TECHNOLOGY
Eugenides Foundation 26-27 November 2019
a) Paper submission
b) Participation in exhibition of marine technology
The Annual Meeting of Marine Technology is a conference with associated events, organized every year by the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology (H.I.M.T.). This year, the Annual Meeting will take place on the 26th and 27th of November 2019 at the Eugenides Foundation.
H.I.M.T. boasts of the high scientific merit of its Annual Meeting and, at the same time, of having established the focal event in Greece for discussing technological advances relating to the Greek and international shipping, from innovation to practical application. Based on previous experience, this year’s event is expected to be strongly supported again by the maritime community, gathering experts and stakeholders from business, academia and the public sector.
In days of unprecedented crisis in Greece, naval architects and marine engineers, as well as maritime entrepreneurs have the potential to realise substantial contributions to the international shipping business through research, development of applications, innovation and collaboration. H.I.M.T.’s Annual Meeting provides the podium for the presentation and discussion of new ideas and initiatives, fostering economic development in the country through the stimulation of activities in the marine/maritime technology sector.
The H.I.M.T. Annual Meeting is traditionally arranged to accommodate the following activities:
- A Technology Conference including also a Round Table Discussion,
- A Technology Exhibition,
- H.I.M.T.’s Annual Dinner and the H.I.M.T. Annual Prize award.
The thematic topics of the 2019 Conference have been specified as follows:
- Design and operation of ships and offshore units.
- Autonomous ships and smart applications in the maritime industry: challenges and opportunities.
- New and forthcoming standards and regulations.
- Innovative and smart methods and technologies for the monitoring, performance assessment and
optimization of ship operation and subsystems.
- New methods, materials and technologies for enhancing the maritime safety and environmental protection.
- Novel technologies in the construction, conversion and survey of ships; use of drones.
- Innovative ship propulsion systems.
- Technologies for the improvement of ship energy efficiency.
- Is IMO’s target for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 feasible?
- New technologies for covering the energy demands of ships, including hybrid energy systems.
- Novel marine fuels.
- Challenges in applying the new SOx (2020) emission limits.
- Fleet maintenance and repair.
- Innovative management methods for ship, fleet, cargo and port facilities.
- Best practices for a sustainable shipping.
- Digitalization, data transfer and cyber-security in shipping: prospects and challenges.
The Scientific and the Organizing Committee of the Conference are responsible for all the activities during the Annual Meeting 2019. Their members will be announced at a later date.
Persons interested to present their work in the Conference should submit for review their manuscript according to the timetable shown below:
27 May 2019: Submission of abstract
15 May 2019: Information about abstract acceptance
19 June 2019: Submission of full-length paper
31 May 2019: Feedback about paper’s acceptance and possible required modifications
11 September 2019: Submission of paper in final form for publication
In the first stage, an abstract of 300 to 400 words is requested to be submitted (preferably through email) to the address shown at the beginning of this announcement. Papers are expected to describe the original work addressing one or more of the thematic areas. All papers will go through a formal review process involving at least two evaluators before they become accepted for presentation during the Conference and for publication in the Conference Proceedings. The Proceedings of the H.I.M.T. Annual Meeting is a stylish publication, reflecting the status of maritime research and development in Greece during the running year.
Round Table Discussion
The Round Table is a debate selected based on the priorities of the Greek and international Shipping Industry. The Round Table Discussion is the focal event of the H.I.M.T.’s Conference. Theme proposals as well as contributions to the organization of the event from experts are highly appreciated.
In parallel to the Conference the Maritime Technology Exhibition will take place, aiming to promote the capabilities of the Greek companies in the development and application of new technological solutions for the maritime sector. This exhibition was firstly introduced to H.I.M.T.’s Annual Meeting on 2008 and it has received increasing attention by the Greek shipping community. It is considered as an event of high importance for the Conference. Companies who intend to contribute to the Exhibition should express their interest to the Institute’s secretariat until 15 September 2019.
Annual Dinner and H.I.M.T. Award 2019
The Institute’s formal Annual Dinner will take place on 27 November 2019 after the end of the Annual Meeting Conference. During the Dinner, the prestigious H.I.M.T. Award for the year 2019 will be presented. According to H.I.M.T.’s rules, it is awarded to a person or organization distinguished in maritime technology, in recognition of significant contribution to the field of maritime technology.
H.I.M.T. warmly invites professionals who are involved in maritime engineering and consultancy, in the technical management of shipping companies, managers and employees of the public sector and of course entrepreneurs and academics, to participate and contribute to this year’s Annual Meeting of the Hellenic Institute of Marine Technology, ensuring that it will be a successful event for another year. We are looking forward to receiving abstracts and also expressions of interest for participation in the Marine Technology Exhibition.
